In college, there is an expectation that you will behave like a responsible adult. No one is going to nag you. If you fail to actively participate, you will simply fail and be left behind.
- Prepare for class. Know how to read a syllabus. Organize your class materials in a 3-ring binder, with the syllabus on the top. Use a planner to record homework assignments, schedule studying for tests, and complete steps of projects.
- Prepare for appointments with your counselor or instructor. Know the purpose of the appointment. Make a list of the questions you have. Anticipate the questions you may be asked and prepare responses.
- Develop a network of support. Find the various support services on campus. Learn how to utilize the services. Work with a counselor to develop an educational plan. Visit your instructors during office hours. Meet other students in classes to hare notes and form study groups. Join a club.
