CalWORKs |
CalWORKs students are low-income parents with children under 18 who are receiving cash aid (welfare benefits) from the state of California for themselves and for their children.
The GCC CalWORKs Program:
§ Processes the documents that allow CalWORKs students to receive supportive services from the county, including child care and reimbursement for school-related costs such as text books, supplies, transportation, and fees;
§ Advocates on behalf of students with county workers (DPSS and GAIN); and
§ Provides encouragement, advice, and honest feedback for students who are rebuilding their lives on a foundation of education, while modeling perseverance and hard work to their children.
Eligibility Requirements: Students receiving CalWORKs cash aid for themselves and for their children.

EOPS |
College Orientation classes, counseling, study lists, book vouchers, priority registration, probation classes, priority tutoring, transfer application fee waivers, special workshops, and grants
Eligibility Requirements: California residency; qualify for Board of Governors waiver “A or B”; have completed less than 30 units; demonstrate financial need (FAFSA); educationally disadvantaged; 2.00 GPA or higher; and full-time student (12 or more units)

CARE |
Counseling, grants, meal cards, career/life planning workshops, transfer activities
Eligibility Requirements: Student must be at least 18 years of age and a single head of household; have at least one child under 14 years of age and currently receiving CalWorks/TANF/AFDC; must be eligible for EOPS (see above eligibility requirements); must be in a degree, certificate or transfer program.

Financial Aid Office
|
BOG: Waives the enrollment fee; students on public assistance who qualify for a BOG-A also receive 50% discount on parking and health fee
Eligibility Requirements: Based on income or financial need. Must be California resident and US citizen or documented immigrant
Federal Student Loan Program: Subsidized loans up to $3500 for freshmen and $4500 for sophomores and an additional $2000 in unsubsidized loans. Independent students may qualify for an additional $4000 in unsubsidized loan. Parents of dependent students may borrow up to $8000 the total cost of attendance, minus any financial aid the student is receiving
Eligibility Requirements:
- File the FAFSA form at www.fafsa.ed.gov
- Attend a loan entrance workshop
- Enroll in at least 6 units and meet financial aid eligibility requirements
Federal & State Grants
(Pell, SEOG, ACG, Cal Grant)— Eligibility for federal and state grant programs is based on the FAFSA form that students file each year. These programs may provide up to $7000 per year in total additional funds for educational and living expenses, depending on eligibility and need. Tutoring in other subjects is arranged by Learning Center staff. Tutors are students who have been recommended by their instructors and have completed a tutor training course. The Computer Assisted Instruction Lab provides self-paced learning software and is open to all students wishing to improve their skills in math, reading, and writing.
Effective Fall 2009: Students MUST obtain a referral for tutoring from their Instructor or Counselor in order to schedule a tutoring appointment.

Librarians provide research assistance at the Reference Desk and teach Workshops on topics such as Research Strategies, Locating Journal & Newspaper Articles, and Citing Sources. The Reserve collection contains 70% of course textbooks used at GCC; books can be checked out for 2 hours - Library Use Only. Many databases are available for student use in the Library or at home via the library’s web site at www.glendale.edu/library/research/databases.html.
