Chemistry 105 is an introductory study of the compounds of carbon, including the preparation, properties, and reactions of both aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, halogen derivatives, alcohols, and ethers. Methods of synthesis are stressed, and reaction mechanisms and modern structural principles are introduced. Lecture 3 hours, discussion 2 hours, laboratory 4 hours.
Prerequisite: Chemistry 102. Note: Required of pre-medical and pre-dental students; recommended for majors in chemistry, petroleum engineering, sanitary and municipal engineering, and pharmacy; and for certain home economics, public health, and agriculture majors.
