Dr. Vahé Peroomian
, was appointed as trustee in June, 2005, and was reelected in 2007, 2011, and 2015. Dr. Peroomian holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California at Los Angeles, where he also received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, also in physics. He has over 30 years of experience in education.
He is currently a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at USC, where he teaches undergraduate physics and astronomy courses. Prior to his January 2015 move to USC, he was a senior researcher specializing in magnetospheric physics and space weather, with funding from NASA and the National Science Foundation, at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCLA. While at UCLA, from 1996 to 2014, he excelled in teaching, earning the Department of Physics and Astronomy Outstanding Teaching Award for 9 academic years. From 1999 – 2014, Dr. Peroomian also served as a lead faculty member at the University of Phoenix Online campus, where he taught a number of courses including Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics, and Introduction to Research.
For the past 10 years, Dr. Peroomian has also served as a contributing author on the world-renowned Serway and Jewett undergraduate physics textbooks, and is currently on the author team of the engineering and pre-med versions of these textbooks.
Dr. Peroomian has been a member of the Board of Directors of Glendale Youth Alliance, a vital non-profit organization serving Glendale’s low-income youth, since 2011, and is the immediate past chair of the board.
Dr. Peroomian is a 38-year resident of Glendale, where he lives with his wife Carolyn, and children Tara, Tadeh, and Sienna.
Dr. Peroomian’s present term is April 2015 – April 2019. He resides in Area 1.
