The men and women's team continues to out run the competion as both teams registered wins Friday at the Western State Conference Preview Meet in Oxnard. The men took their portion of the meet with 37 points followed by Cuesta with 70 and Los Angeles Valley College with 81 points. The women had five runners in the top eight wo win with 21 points with Moorpark secondf with 62 and Cuesta was third with 84 points.
Rico Gutierrez took first place for the men over the four-mile course in 19:55.65. Ricy Avila was fourth overall in 20:24.56, Neil Jones was eighth in 20:53.53, Nicholas Marquez was 12th in 21:03.86 and Miguel Flores was 14th in 21:03.86.
For the women, Briannna Jauregui took first for the Lady Vaqs over the 5K course 18:23.59. Keri Molt was second in 18:38.52, Angela Martinez was fifth in 18:53.18, Alyssa Selve was seventh in 19:17.86 and Cecilla Nicolas was eighth in 19:36.47.
Glendale competes this week in the Foothill Invitational Saturday at 9:15 a.m. at Cucamonga-Gusti Park in Ontario.
The Lady Vaqs split a pair of matches last week and are now 3-6 overall. Glendale fell to Moorpark in three games last Tuesday 25-11, 25-18, 25-12 and defeated Oxnard in three straight Friday 25-15, 25-6 and 28-26. In the win over Oxnard, Jessica Lavarez had 13 kills and four service aces and Roxy Domines had 14 assists. Cindy Sevilla had four service aces, Ana Flores had six digs, Sara Kert had two solo blocks and Brittany Freerick had two team blocks.
Glendale play at Cuesta Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. and host Ventura friday at 7:00 p.m. They start WSC play next week with home games Tuesday against Bakersfield and Friday against Santa Monica. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m.
The host team Glendale finished fourth in a WSC match last Minday at the Oakmont Country Club. The Lady Vaqs finshed fourth with a 351 behind match winner College of the Canyons with 312, Bakersfield had 326, Santa Barbara shot 336 and Citrus had 502. Tammy Panich was low mdalist for Glendale with 80, Louise Wright shot 84, Imelda Treto had 86 and Diana Hernandez shot 101.
Glendale competes next in a WSC match Monday hosted by Bakersfield College at the Bakersfield Country Club.
Glendale had a bye last Tuesday and tied Orange Coast College 2-2 last Friday at Home. They open WSC play Tuesday with a home match against Allan Hancock College and host Moorpark Friday. Both matches start at 7:00 p.m. at Sartoris Field.
The Lady Vaqs split a pair of matches last week and are now 2-5 this seson. They beat West Los Angeles College 3-0 last Tuesday and lost to Oxnard 4-2 Friday. Glendale opens WSC play Tueday with a game at Bakersfield at 4:00 p.m. and plays at Cutrus Friday at 3:00 p.m.
Glendale fell to 0-4 this season with a 44-28 loss at Allan Hoancock College last Saturday in a non-conference game in Santa Maria. The Vaqueros trailed 31-28 late in the fourth quarter but gave up two late scores. Joshua Nakamoto scored a pair of touchdowns for Glendale and Ra'Shon Harper scored on the ground as well. Steven Batsita passed for 225 yard on 19 of 37 and one touchdown, a 55-yard pass to Reinaldo Reyes. Jean Khajarian paced the Vaqs on defense with 12 tackles.
The Vaqueros open Pacific Conference American Divison play Saturday with a home game Saturday against Los Angeles Valley College at 6:00 p.m. at Sartoris Field.
