MARTINEZ NAMED FEMALE CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE YEAR!

CROSS COUNTRY

    Freshman Angela Martinez was named Western State Conference Female Athlete of the Year last week at a meeting of conference coaches. Martinez led the Lady Vaqs to the 2010 conference title and also won the individual title and earned All-American honors with her ninth place finish at the state meet where the Glendale women finished second. Joining Martinez on the All-WSC first team are Briann Jauregui, Alyssa Selve, Diana Sanchez, Vivian Ochoa, Keri molt, Cecilia Nicolas and Catlin Kelly. Named to the second team are Laura Pleumer, Yerania Sanchez, Jessica Aguilar, Arianna Gutierrez and Dianna Gasca.

    Sophomore All-American Rico Gutierrez led the All-WSC choices for the men who won the WSC team title and finished sixth as a team in state. Joining Gutierrez on the All-WSC first team are Ricky Avila, Michel Noris, Miguel Floris and Neil Jones. Nicholas Marquez, Erick Lopez And Ariel Larios were named to the All-WSC second team.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

    Glendale improved to 4-0 with a 93-66 win at San Diego Mesa last Monday. Sophomore Narbeh Ebrahemian led Glendale with 18 points and Nikolas Rhodes added 13 and James Reed had 11. Robert McQueen led the Vaqs with seven rebounds and McQueen and Ebrahemian had four assist each and Danny Lawton had six steals.

    The Vaqueros play in the Antelope Valley tournament starting Friday and face Riverside College at 5:00 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

    The Lady Vaqs fell to 1-6 with a pair of losses in the L.A. Pierce tournament last weekend. Glendale lost to Piercve 87-85 last Friday and fell to Rio Hondo 49-35 Saturday.

    Glendale plays at San Bernardino Valley College Friday at 6:00 p.m.
