Glendale fell to 16-8 overall and 5-3 in the Western State Conference with a 79-75 loss to Sant Monica City College Wednesday. They had a bye Saturday. In the loss to Santa Monica, Suilaiman Sekamwa paced Glendale with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Nate Bryant added 15 points and Nikolas Rhodes and Antonio Garrett had 11 points each.
The Vaqueros play at Citrus College Wednesday and host West Los Angeles College Saturday. Both games start at 5:00 p.m.
The Lady Vaqs fell to Santa Monica 81-63 Wednesday to fall to 0-8 in the WSC South and 0-20 overall. They had a bye Saturday. Freshman gurad Alex Mancillas led Glendale in scoring with 19 points and five assists. Araceli Nieves added 13 points and hit three three-pointers and Marianna Azizian had a team high nine rebounds.
Glendale plays at Citrus College next Wednesday and hosts West L.A. Saturday. Both games start at 7 p.m.
Glendale took second in the 11-team tournament played last Monday and Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. The Vaqueros, the defending champions in the event, finished with a two-day total of 765, three strolkes back of tourney winner Irvine Valley College with a 762 and Orange Coast College was third at 766.
GCC Sophomore Brennan Amirkhizi shot a one-over-par 75 on the south course Wednesday and finished with a two-round total of 150.Jim Park shot 76 Wednesday and 150 over two days and Vincent Lam also carded a 151 for both days.
The Vaqueros compete in a WSC match Monday hosted by College of the Canyons at the Valencia Country Club.
The Vaqueros opened up the 2011 season with two wins in three games, They beat L.A. Harbor College 13-10 Thursday, Cerritos College 9-3 Friday and lost to Rio Hondo College 11-0 Saturday. In the win over Ceritos, Ryan Sheriff allowed just one run in six innings and Scott Hong stole five bases. Chris Stroh stole four bases and Ellis Whitaker and two hits including a triple and Matt McAlister also had two hits and two steals.
Glendale will host three games in the WSC Tournament Thursday through Saturday at Stengel Field. The play Harbor at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Cerro Coso College at 2:00 p.m. Friday and East Los Angeles College at noon Saturday.
Glendale dropped apair of matches last week to famm to 1-2 this season. They fell to Mt. San Jacinto College 5-4 last Thursdat and lost to Occidental College 6-3 Saturday. Alex Sarkissian, Trevor Campbell and Chris Simpson had wins in singles as did the doubles team of Sarkissian and Campbell.
The Vaqueros host Saddleback College Tuesday and Cypress College Thursday at home this week. Both matches start at 2:00 p.m.
The Lady Vaqs fell to Santa Barbara 8-0 Saturday and are 2-3 this season. Nancy Pinedo led Glendale with two hits and Jennifer Meza and Carley Zabka had one each. Meza took the loss on the mound and is 1-3 this season.
Glendale hosts Antelope Valley College Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. and San Diego Southwestern College Saturday in a doubleheader at 1 & 3 p.m. All home games are played at the glendale Sports Complex.
Glendale's match last Tuesday against Rio Hondo College was postponed and will be played on Thursday March 17.
The Lady Vaqs play Thursday at Mt. San Antonio College at 2:00 p.m.
