 BASEBALL

     The Vaqueros improved to 11-6 overall and 2-2 in the Western State Conference Southern Division with two wins in three gamers last week. The fell to Citrus College 5-3 last Tuesday and beat L.A. Valley College 3-0 Thursday and beat College of the Canyons 2-0 Saturday. Inthe win over Valley last week, Thomas Korn pitched a complete game allowing just one hits and striking out four to get the win. Scott Hong had three hits and Matt McCallister, Myles Neimeyer and Ellis Whitman each had two hits.

    Glendale plays at West L.A. College Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., hosts L.A. Pierce College Thursday at 2:00 p.m. and plays at Bakersfield College Saturday at 6:00 p.m.

TRACK & FIELD

    The Glendale men and women competed in the Occidental College distance Carnival Friday night and the Northridge Relays Saturday and psoted some outstanding results.

    On Friday, Neila Jones paced the Glendale men's effort clocking 3:54.77 to place seconfd in his heat of the 1500 meters. Nicholas Marquez was third in his heat of the 3000-meters steeplechase in 10:01.26 and Erick Lopez was fourth in the same race in 10:02.76. Harold Tabora was fourth in his section of the 800 meters in 1:57.97 and Ramon Robles took sixth in his race of the 800 in 1:58.22. Sam Winston was fifth in his section of the 800 in 159.57. Josh Velandria took first in his heat of the 800 in 2:08.55. For the women, Angela MArtinez took sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 11:46.46 and Catlin Kelly was eighth in the same race in 11:49.61.

    On Saturday at the Northridge Relays for the women. Carissa Porter had a strong day winning her heat of the 200 meters in 25.52 and finishing third in her heat in the 100 meters in 12.29. She also anchored a second place finish in the second heat of the 4 x 400 realy. Britany Dacoff finished thgird in her heat in the 200 in 27.78 and fifth in the 100 in her heat in 13.56 and also ran a leg on the 4 x 400 relay. Rita Assoian was fifth in her heat of the 100 in 13.49 and also ran a leg on the 4 x 400 relay with Carissa Pollard. Karen Rosas was 10th in her heat of the 800 meters in 2:23.18 and Angela Martinez was third in her heat of the 800 in 2:25.01 and Kristine Kanechi was fifth in the same race in 2:27.43. Rosas was also eighth in her heat of the 3000 meters in 10:23.34 and Diana Sanchez was fifth in her heat of the 3000 in 10:50.50.Rita Assoian was fifth in her flight of the long jump with a leap of 4.74 meters.  

 

Glendale competes next in WSC meet No. 1 Friday at College of the Canyons at 1:00 p.m. 

 

MENS GOLF

    Glendale finished fifth in a WSC match last Monday at the Santa Maria Country Club hosted by Allan Hancock College.

    The Vaqueros play in the Southern California Invitational Monday at La Purisima Country Club and play Wednesday in the GCC Invitational at Alhambra Golf Club. 

MEN'S TENNIS

     The Vaqueros fell to 3-1 in WSC play and 6-5 overall after a 6-3 loss to Ventura college last Tuesday. They had a bye Thursday. Alex Sarkissian, who was named the state athlelet of the month for February, remained undefeated this season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles against Ventura. Grayson Frazier has won at No. 4 singles and the doubles team of Sarkissian and Trevor Campbell was also victorious.

    Glendale hosts Pima College from Arizona Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.

SOFTBALL

     The Lady Vaqs dropped a doubleheader to Cypress college 12-2 and 3-0 Saturday and are now 4-7 overall. Rachel Allen and Brittney Wright each had two hits in the 12-2 first game loss to Cypress. Samantha Dickens and Allen doubled and Wright tripled and drove in a run. 

    Glendale starts WSC play this week at Bakersfield College Tuesdasy at 5:00 p.m. and hosts Santa Monica in a double header Thursday at the glendale Sports Complex and 1 and 3:00 p.m.

WOMEN'S TENNIS

     Glendale split a pair of matches last week and are now 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the WSC play. They fell to Ventura College 7-2 last Tuesday and beat Allan Hancock College 7-2 Thursday. In the win over Hancock, Sevana Zargarian, Samantha Sismundo, Phoebe Minette, Mayra Alvarez and Katherine Akmakji all had wins in singles as did the doubles teams of  Zargarian and Sismundo and Sindi Concebida and Minette. 

    The Lady Vaqs host Pima College from Arizona Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.
