For summer 2013 GCC study abroad returns to Bali, “Island of the Gods." Courses will be offered in Magic, Witchcraft & Religion and World Music. Bali’s vibrant culture, music, dance and belief systems are woven into the fabric of these courses, providing greater understanding through direct observation. Learn about the origins and diffusion of Bali's religion, magic, dance and music, explore their presence in present-day Bali, and uncover their global links. Explore rites of passage in various cultures then attend a Balinese cremation ceremony; see first-hand how Bali's musical instruments are created and imbued with spiritual powers; and observe sacred trance dances and fall under the spell of the rhythmic gamelan orchestra.
