The Associate in Science for Transfer Degree in Early Childhood Education is designed to prepare the student for transfer to a four-year institution of higher education and is specifically intended to satisfy lower-division requirements for a baccalaureate degree in Child Development at a California State University. The knowledge and skills offered in this degree lead students to develop foundational knowledge in the field of Child Development including those topics and issues related to global, national, and local aspects of the field of study.
Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will be able to promote Child Development by developing an understanding of young children and their needs, as well as the multiple interacting influences on children’s development and learning in order to create healthy, respectful supportive and challenging environments for all children; build family and community relationships; observe, document and assess child development and learning to support young children and families; plan, implement and evaluate developmentally appropriate, culturally and linguistically relevant experiences that promote and/or support development and learning for all children; and identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession, using ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood best practices.
