The undergraduate program in Political Science aims to provide an understanding of basic political processes and institutions as these operate in different national and cultural contexts. It also covers the interaction between national states, the changing character of the relations between citizens and governments, and the values and criteria by which the quality of political life is judged. In the last two years, most courses are in the major, usually with a concentration in one area of political science concentrations typically offered at most schools include American Government and Politics, Comparative Government, International Relations, Public Policy, and Political Theory. The Political Science program may be individually focused to serve the individual needs of the liberal arts major, the student seeking preparation for graduate work in political science, public policy, law and other professional fields, and the student preparing for specialized roles in political and public organizations. Below are some examples of the lower division courses required for the major.
