My mission and passion is to assist students with their educational goals to secure a job in a career that will eventually lead to self sufficiency and off of government assistance through TANF benefits. I also assist with displaced workers collecting unemployment insurance. These students study curriculum under the guidelines of either the state funded CalWORKs program or through WIA sponsored federal funds. I enjoy the diversity of people I work with and the challenges and rewards of making a difference in their lives.
My duties are varied; I motivate and assist students with class enrollments, provide guidance for their educational career goals, and track student progress through successful course completion. This is accomplished through partnership and compliance with the Department of Social Services (Welfare to Work Employment Plan) and in collaboration with the Verdugo Jobs Center under Workforce Investment Act legislation. Course offerings include vocational training programs, English as a Second Language, GED/HS Diploma, and Adult Basic Education.
Students are often moved to tears and comment on their appreciation for the many services they receive from our caring and friendly staff, instructors, and the pleasant classroom environment. They are impressed with the high level of instruction and the varied and abundant services we offer to support their educational and personal needs. Students also enjoy the availability and flexibility of our individual self-paced open entry/exit courses and the easy access that our campus offers.
